A well thought out design will improve the quality of life of the people living in the space.  If we aren’t improving your life, then why are we even redesigning it, right?  There are several ways we can use design to improve the logistics of your daily life and your overall wellbeing.

Good design should always promote the health and wellness of the occupants of the home.  This can take the form of adequate storage so you aren’t constantly overstimulated by the “stuff” that accumulates in a home, or by changing the flow of your space so that it makes it easier to get from space to space.  Space planning is critical to making sure you have room to walk between cabinets, or have enough space to exit a bathtub safely.  It could mean changing the colors from stark white to a warmer color to improve the feel of the space.

When thinking about physical wellbeing, considerations like safety and accessibility need to be taken into account.  Extra wide doorways will allow for wheelchairs or walkers, zero entry showers with grab bars will provide extra safety for older houseguests or residents.  Think outside of the box when selecting furniture as well.  Standing desks are a great option for many who work from home to promote movement.

We are often drawn towards natural light and natural finish selections like stone, wood, natural fibers, and the use of indoor plants.  Generally, we find spaces calming that are free of clutter (meaning, storage solutions should be well thought out).  Paint selection is important in terms of what feeling we are evoking.  Calming, muted colors will promote a different feeling than deep, bold, moody colors.  You will have a psychological response to your interior space-good or bad.  Our job as designers is to make sure your space not only functions, but also improves your life in tangible ways. At the end of the day, your home should be your haven.  It should represent you, and should make you feel good.  If you’re ready to make some changes to your home and health, give us a call!  We’d love to help!
