One thing about working with me is that I absolutely love inspiration images from my clients. I love learning about their tastes, and what speaks to them. This day in age, I get inspiration pictures from Dropbox albums, Pinterest Boards, and Instagram images. Occasionally I still get images taken from magazines. So, if you are considering a project, or looking for a little inspiration, here are 5 magazines I love!

1. Elle Décor

This magazine trends a little more modern, as you remember the original Elle Magazine was geared towards new fashion trends. Elle Décor has the same target audience of trendy young people, but in the design of their home rather than the clothes in their closets. This magazine also covers a bit of lifestyle and travel, making it a little more well-rounded. I love getting staging and décor ideas here.

2. Architectural Digest

Architectural Digest is a great place to look at current trends, celebrity homes, and provides a great balance between interior design and architectural design. I find the architectural design to be especially inspiring as I consider how to make the homes of my clients unique. The images in Architectural Digest are unparalleled.

3. Coastal Living

Coastal Living is admittedly a favorite because of our location here in Charleston, South Carolina. I find myself often bouncing between traditional southern homes and coastal homes with a modern flair. Coastal living keeps me inspired to design for our area without the cheesy coastal décor that we’ve all seen at a beach house rental.

4. House Beautiful

House Beautiful is a great magazine that gives me more of a timeless vibe. I love getting ideas from the colorful images in this magazine. Here you’ll find great product recommendations. They do a good job of sharing tips from designers that are tried and true, and inspire me to try new things.

5. Dwell

Dwell is a newer subscription to me, but has been around for quite some time! I find their articles to be inspiring, and they lean a bit more modern with a great feature on products. Dwell, in particular, gives me furniture inspiration.

Don’t be afraid to show pictures to your designer of things you love (or even things you hate!). I find the more information I have about my clients and their tastes, the better able I am to create a design they will love. If you are considering renovation, redesign, or new build, I encourage you to pick up some magazines and get inspired!
