While I love to travel, I also love to be a tourist in my own town. Charleston has no shortage of amazing hotels making it a great place for a staycation. I especially love the opportunity to wander our beautiful city without agenda or obligation.
These are 5 hotels I’d recommend to anyone looking to spend a few days downtown.
1. The Pinch
Mixing Old & New
The Pinch is a charming boutique hotel in great location just tucked off of King Street. The pinch feels a little more like a stylish Charleston home than a traditional hotel. The hotel’s building is historic, but thoughtful design choices modernize the interior. I love that all rooms feature full kitchens and some have washers and dryers!

2. The Dewberry
Mid-Century Inspired
The Dewberry feels very southern, modern, and sophisticated. The hotel is located in a former federal building, and the interior design is more midcentury modern than traditional Charleston. Located just off of Marion Square, you are conveniently located to shops and restaurants. Not to be missed is the Citrus Club rooftop, featuring one of the city’s most beautiful views.

3. The Loutrel
Bringing the Outdoors In
The Loutrel gives serious southern porch vibes, feeling polished but not overly formal. A welcoming porch swing and large-scale mural of a low country landscape make the space feel very true to Charleston. The hotel can be well described as garden inspired featuring natural light, soothing greens, and warm woods. A beautiful rooftop terrace looks down over the French Quarter.

4. French Quarter Inn
Timeless Design
If you are looking for quintessential Charleston charm, this is it. French Quarter Inn feels luxurious and classic featuring and interior courtyard and a grand staircase. This hotel feels like a quiet retreat, despite being right in the heart of the French Quarter. I loved the touches that are reminiscent of southern hospitality at it’s finest: champagne at arrival, wine and cheese in the afternoons, milk and cookies in the evening.

5. The Spectator
Embracing moody
The Spectator feels like a glamourous step back into the 1920s. The art deco details and dark woods give a moodier vibe than any other on this list. They also feature a prohibition style lounge. The hotel feels very romantic and intimate. Every guest has a personal butler who can help with virtually anything you can think of.

Whether you are coming to visit, or looking for a reason to spend a few days downtown, definitely check out these beautiful hotels. You won’t be disappointed! These hotels have it all from beautiful design choices, great locations, to flawless southern hospitality.
